Gimnasia vs Godoy Cruz

An own goal from Santiago Hezze gave Gimnasia LP a massive 1-0 away success at Huracan in a hard-fought game last Saturday. El Lobo made it two consecutive victories in the Liga Profesional to occupy second place in that table on 21 points, just four behind leaders Atletico Tucuman. Furthermore, the team climbed into the last Copa Libertadores berth in the aggregate rankings, leapfrogging River Plate. In fact, Nestor Gorosito’s men have been unbeaten in their last seven matches at home, winning six and drawing one since losing to Sarmiento 3-1 in April.

After an impressive start, Godoy Cruz are experiencing a slight slump. Last Friday, the team settled for a 1-1 home draw against Velez Sarsfield (who rested several regulars). Therefore, El Tomba are now on three league games without a win, drawing two and losing one since beating Lanus 2-1 at home in round eight. However, they have performed a good campaign in the Liga Profesional, accumulating 18 points in 11 games, which allowed them to hold a four-point gap over the relegation zone in the respective table. On away turf, Godoy Cruz accumulated five points in six games following one victory, two draws and three losses.

Even if Godoy Cruz has been a surprise so far, they are not as good as these odds say specially away and against a solid team like Gimnasia, so I’m going with the hosts here.
