Gimnasia vs Estudiantes
Gimnasia LP coach Nestor Gorosito decided to rest six of his usual starters last Sunday and the team couldn’t handle that: they lost 3-0 away at Argentinos Juniors to stop a two-game winning streak in league action. Therefore, El Lobo remain on 34 points in the league table, which is still a good campaign, but they were displaced from the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table (now trailing Union Santa Fe, who occupy the last qualifying berth by one point). As hosts, Gimnasia lost only one of their last four matches, winning two and drawing one.
Estudiantes will face the city derby after securing a much-needed 1-0 home victory over Velez Sarsfield last weekend thanks to a penalty netted by Leandro Diaz. Therefore, the team extended their unbeaten streak to five league games (three consecutive wins and two draws) and accumulated 38 points in the league table. Thanks to that success, El Pincha climbed into the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate standings and secured their ticket to that competition after Lanus’ home draw against Rosario Central on Saturday. Estudiantes also won their last away game at Godoy Cruz to break a four-match winless streak of two draws and two defeats on the road.
Big derby, both will be super focused as this is one of the most important games of the season for them, and I like the chances of the hosts to get the win here.
