Gimnasia vs Colon
Gimnasia LP finally succumbed to a defeat in the league after ten matches (eight victories and two draws). It was last Sunday, when they lost 2-0 away at Atletico Tucuman and wasted the chance of becoming league leaders. The team are now second-placed in the Liga Profesional on 14 points, one behind table toppers Newell’s Old Boys. However, El Lobo remain occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots in the aggregate table. Nestor Gorosito’s men also are on five consecutive victories at home since losing to Sarmiento 3-1 in April.
After coach Julio Falcioni’s departure, Colon returned to winning ways in league action. Under interim boss Adrian Marini, the team beat Velez Sarsfield 2-1 at home to break a three-match losing streak in this competition and made it eight points in seven rounds, which is not yet enough to approach the continental spots in the aggregate table. On away turf, Colon have been winless in their last eight domestic matches, having drawn four and lost four since beating CA Central Cordoba 2-0 in February. Coach Sergio Rondina will make his debut at the club on Saturday. He will be without Facundo Farias as the star player saw a red card last time out and is suspended.
Looks like a good opportunity for Gimnasia to recover from their first defeat, and win again against this very irregular Colon that won’t have their best player, Facundo Farias.
