Gimnasia – Talleres

Gimnasia LP don’t give up on their fight to clinch a ticket for the next Copa Sudamericana. Last Friday, they managed to beat San Lorenzo 1-0 away thanks to a strike from Eric Ramirez in the first half. Having lost only one of their last seven league matches (winning four and drawing two), El Lobo accumulated 31 points and approached the continental spots in the aggregate table. After securing a single win in four games as hosts at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata (with one draw and two defeats), Gimnasia will return to their own stadium on Tuesday as a full capacity has been allowed.

Talleres couldn’t hold onto their lead and ended up drawing 1-1 at home against Velez Sarsfield last Friday. That means they are running out of chances to fight for the title, but on the other hand, the team remain second-placed on 40 points, which allows them to continue occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots for next season. Furthermore, Alexander Medina’s men are on four league games unbeaten, having won two and drawn two in that time. They also are one of the best away sides in the league, accumulating 17 points in 11 games so far.

Four rounds left, if Talleres wants to get a Copa Libertadores place these are the kind of games where not even a draw is useful so I can imagine they will definitely go for the win.
