Gimnasia – Talleres

Eric Ramirez’s goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time allowed Gimnasia LP to avoid defeat in the city derby following a 1-1 home draw against Estudiantes (they remain winless against their arch-rivals since 2010). However, the result also extended their winless streak to five league matches (two points from 15 on offer since beating San Lorenzo in matchweek two). Overall, El Lobo secured six points this season and are almost out of the fight for a ticket to the playoffs. Nevertheless, Gimnasia are on five home matches unbeaten, with two victories and three draws in that time.

Under interim boss Javier Gandolfi, Talleres finally celebrated their first success of the league season by beating Godoy Cruz 2-1 at home thanks to goals from Juan Mendez and Diego Valoyes. The team made it five points in the Copa Liga Profesional and stopped a seven-match winless run of two draws and five defeats. On away turf, the side managed a single point in three matches this term without even scoring. New coach Pedro Caixinha will make his debut at the club in this game.

Gimnasia is a decent team at home, and they should beat a Talleres that won’t have some very important attacking player like Valoyes and Santos, and also will have a debuting coach from Portugal that has no experience and probably no knowledge of the league.
