Gimnasia – Sarmiento

Gimnasia LP made it three matches without defeat in the Copa Liga Profesional (two victories and one draw) last Friday, when beating Atletico Tucuman 2-1 away thanks to a brace from Cristian Tarragona. Nestor Gorosito’s men accumulated 12 points and are returning to the fight for a ticket to the playoffs, trailing fourth-placed Union Santa Fe by five in group A. El Lobo hold a six-match unbeaten streak at Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo, having won three and drawn three since losing to Banfield in November.

Thanks to a brace from striker Jonatan Torres, Sarmiento secured a much-needed 2-1 home success over San Lorenzo last Friday. The team put an end to their three-game winless streak (one draw and two defeats) and accumulated 14 points in group A, which is enough to climb out of the relegation zone. On a sorry note, El Verde lost seven of their last nine away matches, along with one victory and one draw. Striker Jonatan Torres is affected by a muscle problem. He travelled to La Plata but wouldn’t start. Defensive midfielder Harrinson Mancilla collected his fifth yellow card against San Lorenzo and is suspended.

Both are irregular teams, but Gimnasia is stronger at home and Sarmiento are bad away, plus they will have some important missings so I think the hosts should take this one.
