Estudiantes vs River
Estudiantes are still going through an irregular spell. Last weekend, they postponed an away game at Racing Club in MD24, but their last match ended in a disappointing 1-1 home stalemate against Rosario Central. As a result, El Pincha are now on eight league games unbeaten, but they drew the last five (all of those 1-1), having won the previous three. Following that run, they made it 31 points in the Liga Profesional (with one game in hand) and dropped down to the seventh spot of the aggregate table (despite having already clinched their ticket to the 2025 Copa Libertadores). At home, Estudiantes remain without defeat in their last six (two victories and four draws).
River Plate showed a terrible performance at newcomers Independiente Rivadavia in MD23, losing 2-1 away after conceding the winner in the 99th minute. That result put an end to their six-game unbeaten streak of three victories and three stalemates in league action. Despite holding one game in hand after postponing their home encounter against San Lorenzo last weekend, El Millonario are already out of the fight for the Liga Profesional title, accumulating 36 points and trailing leaders Velez Sarsfield by nine. On the other hand, Marcelo Gallardo’s men remain occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots in the aggregate table. The aforementioned loss also stopped their run of seven away games without defeat in domestic action (winning two and drawing five).
River are close to secure a Copa Libertadores 2025 place and they could do it with a win here combined with other results. They will still have important missings in defense like Marcos Acuña and German Pezzella, and will face Estudiantes who have scored at least once in the last 8 games and also conceded in 15 of their last 16, so 2 goals seem definitely possible.
