Estudiantes vs Racing
After closing up last season with a Copa Argentina title, Estudiantes keep their standards up. Last Thursday, El Pincha secured a massive 1-0 away success at Union Santa Fe to make it all six points in the first Copa Liga Profesional rounds, becoming group B leaders alongside Newell’s Old Boys and Godoy Cruz. In fact, Eduardo Dominguez’s men are without defeat in the last seven league games (winning five and losing two). At home, Estudiantes took ten points from the last 12 available. Striker Guido Carrillo continues to recover from a muscle injury and will miss out again.
After a terrible league opener, Racing Club showed an excellent recovery last Wednesday, when they secured a convincing 3-0 home success over Tigre. Coach Gustavo Costas managed their first win in their return to the club to make it three points in two rounds in group B. Overall, La Academia lost only one of their last nine league matches, winning four and drawing four. On away turf, Racing have been unbeaten in their last seven (two victories and five draws).
Racing looked good leadered by Juanfer Quintero in their solid win against Tigre, they’ve been very strong when playing away lately and I think they should be able to avoid a defeat here in what could be a game between two championship candidates. Estudiantes won both games 1-0, having to fight really hard on both and even though I also like them, this will be their first strong rival in this competition.
