Estudiantes vs Gimnasia
Thanks to an own goal by Gabriel Compagnucci in the 94th minute, Estudiantes salvaged a very important point in their visit to Belgrano last weekend, drawing 1-1. Despite having won only one of their last six league matches (along with three draws and two losses), El Pincha remain in the playoff zone with 17 points, although they still haven’t managed to close in on the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table. Estudiantes have earned 13 out of a possible 18 points at home in the Torneo Clausura, with four wins, one draw, and one defeat.
Gimnasia LP suffered a tough blow last weekend, losing 2-1 at home to Talleres after conceding a goal in the third minute of stoppage time in a direct clash for top-flight survival. It was their fourth defeat in the last five league matches (alongside just one win in that span), and El Lobo now sit on only 13 points in the Torneo Clausura, having fallen out of the playoff spots and sitting just five points above the relegation zone in the aggregate table. As a result, coach Alejandro Orfila left the club. Gimnasia have shown decent form away from home this semester, earning seven out of a possible 15 points. Fernando Zaniratto will take over as interim boss on Sunday.
Big derby and definitely the most important game of the tournament for both, Estudiantes have dominated this derby lately and they are in much better form than this poor Gimnasia who will be under an interim coach, so I expect a home win.
