Estudiantes vs Gimnasia
After their perfect group stage, Estudiantes were knocked out of the Copa Liga Profesional in the quarter-finals, losing to Argentinos Juniors on penalties following a 1-1 home draw. El Pincha are now third-placed in the aggregate table with 28 points after losing only one of their last nine league games (four victories and four draws in regular time). At home, they won three in a row before the mentioned loss on penalties. During the league break, they advanced to the Copa Libertadores round of 16, winning 1-0 away at Brazil’s Red Bull Bragantino and losing 4-0 at Velez Sarsfield. Centre back Luciano Lollo arrived from Banfield during the transfer window.. All regulars are fit for Sunday’s city derby.
Gimnasia LP’s four-match winning streak at the end of the Copa Liga Profesional’s group stage wasn’t enough to advance to the playoffs, but the side made it 24 points, which places them now into the Copa Sudamericana zone in the aggregate table. Furthermore, El Lobo are on three consecutive successes on away turf (beating Atletico Tucuman, Platense and Patronato).
Big city derby and arguably the most important game of the tournament for both. It’s a derby Estudiantes dominates lately and they should go back to their good form with a win here.
