Defending champions Estudiantes remain in good style after lifting the Copa Liga Profesional title. Last time out, coach Eduardo Dominguez rotated most of his players and the team were still able to beat Tigre 1-0 away from home, with Mauro Mendez netting the winner. El Pincha took their first three points in the Liga and made it five league matches without defeat, winning five and drawing two in regular time. At home, Estudiantes lost only one of their last ten in domestic action (seven victories and two stalemates).

Deportivo Riestra showed an excellent performance in the Liga Profesional opener, dominating the game to beat San Lorenzo 1-0 at home thanks to a goal from Jonathan Herrera in the first half. El Malevo seem to have adapted to life in the top flight: they lost only one of their last six in league action, winning three and drawing two, which allows them to hold a five-point gap over bottom-placed Independiente Rivadavia in the point-average rankings. On a sorry note, Riestra won only one out of seven as the visiting side in 2024, along with three stalemates and three losses.

Estudiantes had their Copa Libertadores game postponed last week and they rested some starters last week, so they should be overall rested and ready for this game. Riestra had a solid start beating San Lorenzo reserves but they are still a very poor team, especially when playing away and they should be in trouble against the defending champions.
