Estudiantes vs Boca
Estudiantes haven’t found any difficulties to overcome the quarter-finals. Last weekend, the team showed an enjoyable performance to secure an easy 3-0 win over Barracas Central at Platense (goals from Guido Carrillo -2- and Javier Correa). That result represented the fourth consecutive victory for Eduardo Dominguez’s men, who will fight for their first league title since 2010. Centre back Federico Fernandez recovered from a muscle problem and is ready to return on Sunday. Regarding the last league game, Enzo Perez will replace Fernando Zuqui.
Boca Juniors played one of their best matches in the Copa Liga Profesional last weekend, making a great effort to reverse the score to beat arch-rivals River Plate 3-2 at Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, with Miguel Merentiel (2) and Edinson Cavani scoring. Diego Martinez’s men advanced to the semi-finals on their quest to lift a 38th league title in history after three wins in a row and five of the last six matches in this competition (along with a single defeat in that spell). On Thursday 25, Boca lost 4-2 away at Brazil’s Fortaleza EC in a Copa Sudamericana group game. Midfielder Cristian Medina has served his one-match suspension and is available for Tuesday. He will replace Jabes Saralegui in the only expected change (with regard to the Superclasico).
Boca’s defense has been completely unreliable lately, conceding 6 goals in the last week (4 at Brazil, 2 in the Superclasico) but their scoring power is still there with Merentiel and legendary striker Edinson Cavani scoring in 8 of their last 10 games. Estudiantes attack is strong as well, with goals scored in 9 of their last 11 games, and since this is a one leg semifinal one goal should open things up, so I’ll go for the OVER on this short totals line.
