Deportivo Riestra – San Lorenzo
Deportivo Riestra remain competitive but continue to struggle for results. On Tuesday night, in a very even match, a lapse in concentration proved costly as they lost 1–0 away to CA Central Córdoba. El Malevo are still without a win in the Torneo Apertura and have collected just six points, three above the bottom of the overall standings. In fact, they have now gone 14 league matches without a victory —seven draws and seven defeats— and have failed to score in their last five games. At home, Riestra are winless in seven matches, drawing four and losing three.
San Lorenzo collapsed on Monday night. In the context of an irregular campaign, the team delivered their worst performance of the season so far, were outplayed from start to finish and fell 5–2 at home to Defensa y Justicia. As a result, El Ciclón have temporarily dropped out of the playoff places in Group A with 13 points and are now on a run of four league matches without a win —three draws and one defeat—. As a result, coach Damián Ayude was dismissed. Away from home, San Lorenzo have not won in their last four matches —drawing three and losing one—. They won 5-0 over Deportivo Rincón in the Copa Argentina first round on Friday 20 with Alan Capobianco as interim coach. New head coach Gustavo Álvarez will make his debut at San Lorenzo on Wednesday.
San Lorenzo showed signs of life with the 5-0 win in Copa Argentina, even if it was against a 3rd tier team they played well, scored goals and that should give them some confidence for the debut of the new coach. Riestra is nowhere the tough team they were last season. They are still winless, could only score 2 goals in 10 games, so I expect the visitors at least not to lose here.
