Defensa y Justicia vs Patronato
Defensa y Justicia stopped a three-game winless streak of two draws and one defeat in league action last Monday, when beating Union Santa Fe 2-1 away from home. Thanks to that victory, the team accumulated 22 points and returned to the last qualifying spot in group A, leapfrogging Argentinos Juniors (by goal difference) and Sarmiento. Therefore, they would qualify for the quarterfinals by beating Patronato at home.
Patronato succumbed to a huge blow last time out, when they suffered a devastating 6-0 home defeat to Gimnasia LP last time out. It was their fourth loss across the last five league games (along with a single win), which means the team remain on ten points in 13 matches. That campaign places them in the bottom spot of the relegation table, far away from the last safe spot. On away turf, Patronato recorded two wins and four losses this season.
If Defensa wins they will get a playoff spot, and even though they are not in their best form I can’t imagine how they will fail to beat the worst team in the league.
