Colon continues to improve since coach Eduardo Dominguez returned to the club. Last Monday, they beat CA Central Cordoba 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Christian Bernardi and Luis Rodriguez to remain as table toppers in group 2 on seven points, two above Independiente. El Sabalero made it three victories and one draw under their recently-appointed boss. Furthermore, Colon stopped a four-game winless run at their own stadium (one draw and three defeats). All regulars are at Eduardo Dominguez’s disposal to host Defensa y Justicia on Saturday.
Defensa y Justicia remains winless in the Copa Liga Profesional following their scoreless home draw with Independiente last weekend. Having collected only two points, El Halcon are third-placed in group 2, trailing their last opponents (in the second spot) by three. On a positive note, Defensa won six and drew six of their last 13 top-flight games, having lost only once in that span. On away turf, they are unbeaten in the last five in domestic action, but only one of them ended in a victory (2-1 at Estudiantes in February). Defensa y Justicia centre back Juan Gabriel Rodriguez succumbed to a muscle problem against Independiente and will miss out here.
Colon will be very close or may be confirmed in the next stage with a win, Defensa’s chances are quite narrow and next week they play a huge game against Vasco da Gama in Copa Sudamericana so I can’t imagine that they will be very focused on this game.
