Central Cordoba vs Talleres

Last weekend, CA Central Cordoba failed to hold onto their lead again and succumbed to a heartbreaking 2-1 away loss at Belgrano. As a result, El Ferroviario are the only team who remain pointless in the Liga Profesional (and since coach Lucas Gonzalez Velez’s arrival). In addition, an eight-match winless run of three draws and five losses keeps them threatened by relegation in both tables (five points above Tigre in the aggregate rankings and bottom in the point-average excluding the newcomers). Central remain without a win in their last five as the hosting side, drawing three and losing two.

Talleres showed a promising version on their visit to Boca Juniors last weekend, drawing 0-0 despite deserving a bit more. Therefore, La T remain as Liga Profesional leaders on seven points (along with Racing Club, Union Santa Fe, Huracan, Gimnasia LP and Independiente Rivadavia), which also keeps them into the Copa Sudamericana zone in the aggregate table after 11 league matches without defeat (five victories and six stalemates). Six of those games were on away turf: Walter Ribonetto’s men won two and drew four in that spell. On Wednesday 29, Talleres lost 2-0 away at Sao Paulo FC from Brazil in a Copa Libertadores group match. Ruben Botta and Juan Portilla succumbed to different issues and will miss out. Ulises Ortegoza, and Gustavo Bou are still recovering from their respective injuries.

Central Cordoba are not exactly reliable right now but they just can’t lose forever an after scoring 3 goals in the last 2 games they’ve shown that they need to improve defensively and results will come. Talleres is a very good team but they won’t have some key midfielders like Botta, Portilla and Ortegoza, they also should be tired after a hard fought game at Brazil in Copa Libertadores midweek, so I’ll take the risk and trust the hosts at this big handicap.
