Central Cordoba vs Newell’s
CA Central Cordoba are showing improvements lately. Last Saturday, the team played a good game away at Estudiantes (fifth-placed in the league), securing a valuable 1-1 away draw after taking the first lead. Even though El Ferroviario won only one of their last eight matches in league action, five of those were draws (along with just two losses) and it helps them to continue escaping relegation: Leonardo Madelon’s men are now on 26 points, leading Huracan (who occupy the relegation spot in the aggregate table) by seven.
Newell’s Old Boys salvaged an important home point last Monday, when they came back from a 2-0 disadvantage and made it 2-2 against Gimnasia LP in an entertaining match. It was their sixth stalemate across the last nine matches in league action, winning two and losing one in that time. As a result, Gabriel Heinze continue wasting chances of entering the Copa Sudamericana zone, accumulating 30 points and trailing the last qualifying berth by two. In fact, Newell’s are on five domestic away games without a win, having drawn three and lost two in that spell.
Newell’s won’t have midfielder Sforza who is injured, and their best defender, colombian Walter Ditta, was sold to a mexican club, so I expect them to struggle against this Central Cordoba that is not a great team but doesn’t lose as much as they used to.
