Boca vs Independiente
After losing to Newell’s Old Boys 2-0 away last Sunday, Boca Juniors returned to the top of the league table on Thursday, when beating Gimnasia LP 2-1 on the road thanks to goals from Frank Fabra and Luca Langoni. Having lost only one of their last 15 matches in league action (11 victories and three draws), El Xeneize are leaders on 51 points, one above Racing Club, and will lift a new league title in the event of beating Independiente on Sunday.
Thanks to a strike from Damian Batallini in the second half, Independiente secured a 1-0 home victory over Banfield in an uneventful game last Sunday. Following that result, El Rojo put an end to their three-game winless streak of one draw and two defeats in league action and they also made it 34 points in 26 games in the Liga Profesional, which won’t be enough to fight for one of the continental tickets. Independiente lost their last away game to Tigre after three league wins in a row on the road.
If Boca wins they will take the championship, and I can’t see Independiente being a strong opposition specially because the other team that can win the title is their all time rival Racing who will be playing at the same time.
