Boca vs Defensa y Justicia

Boca Juniors wasted a big chance of climbing into the playoff places in group B last Sunday, when they had to settle for a 1-1 away draw at Independiente with Sebastian Villa missing a penalty in the 95th minute of the game. Winless in the last three league games (two stalemates and one defeat), the defending champions collected ten points so far and are trailing Defensa y Justicia (who occupy fourth place in this zone) by one. Furthermore, El Xeneize haven’t claimed any victories in their last five league matches at Estadio La Bombonera, drawing four and losing one.

Defensa y Justicia registered a 1-1 home stalemate with group B leaders Velez Sarsfield last Sunday in spite of having taken the first lead thanks to a goal from Marcelo Benitez in the first half. Having lost only one of the last five in league action (along with two victories and two draws), El Halcon accumulated 11 points to climb into the last playoff spot. Defensa are winless in their last five away games in league action, having drawn two and lost three since beating Union Santa Fe 3-1 in December 2020.  

If Boca had trouble against irregular teams like Talleres and Sarmiento, Defensa can definitely give them a headache so I’m going with the visitors taking something from this game.
