Boca vs Banfield
Defending league champions Boca Juniors advanced to the Copa Liga Profesional’s final following a 2-2 away draw at Argentinos Juniors. That result, along with River Plate’s defeat to Independiente at Banfield, means El Xeneize secured the first place in group A with nine points in five rounds. Miguel Angel Russo’s men have been unbeaten in their last seven matches in this competition, winning three and drawing four. Boca lost 3-0 at Brazil’s Santos last Wednesday and were knocked out of the Copa Libertadores in the semi-finals after drawing 0-0 at home in the first leg.
Banfield played in perfect style last Sunday, when they celebrated an easy 4-1 home success over San Lorenzo to clinch their ticket to the final and now they will fight for their first title since 2009. El Taladro have been the best team in this competition so far: they managed 12 points from 15 on offer in the second stage and suffered a single defeat in their last seven matches in the Copa Liga Profesional, winning four and drawing two. Banfield coach Javier Sanguinetti has a full squad to pick from on Sunday as Luciano Lollo has served his one-game suspension and is available.
This is the final game of the season for the championship, played in neutral ground. Boca comes from a heartbreaking defeat at Brazil after a terrible performance that eliminated them from Copa Libertadores and I can’t imagine that their minds are ready for this game. Banfield will be hungry and I think they will win the trophy.
