Boca – Union
Boca Juniors are starting to improve under coach Fernando Gago. Last time out, El Xeneize managed a 2-0 away success at relegation candidates Sarmiento thanks to goals from Miguel Merentiel and Kevin Zenon. The team made it two consecutive victories in league action to accumulate 31 points in the Liga Profesional, which keeps them alive in their fight to qualify for the 2025 Copa Libertadores (trailing the last berth by four points). Boca have been unbeaten in their last three at home in domestic action, winning two and drawing one. Miguel Merentiel and Aaron Anselmino succumbed to different injuries and will miss out. Luis Advincula and Marcelo Saracchi are involved in the CONMEBOL Qualifiers.
Union Santa Fe secured three massive points in their last league game, beating Atletico Tucuman 1-0 at home thanks to a strike from Jeronimo Domna in the 74th minute. El Tatengue made it three victories across their last four league games (along with a single defeat) to accumulate 36 points in the Liga Profesional, an excellent campaign which places them just four points behind the last Copa Libertadores’ berth in the aggregate table (would be a first-time achievement in the club’s history).
I’m still not convinced by Boca despite the win in the last game against the poor Sarmiento. To make things worse they will have some important missings in defense and attack, so I expect Union to put them in trouble and avoid a defeat here.
