Boca – River
Boca Juniors comes to the Superclasico off a disappointing 2-1 away defeat to Racing Club last Saturday, when the side were unable to hold onto their lead. That result put an end to their nine-match unbeaten streak of four victories and five stalemates in league action and left them on 21 points in the Liga Profesional, nine behind table toppers Velez Sarsfield. In addition, El Xeneize have been displaced from the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table. On a positive note, Boca are unbeaten in their last 16 domestic matches at home, winning 11 and drawing five. Edinson Cavani and Luis Advincula are expected to return after overcoming their injuries.
River Plate finally showed their best skills under recently-returned boss Marcelo Gallardo. Last time out, the team produced an enjoyable performance to beat Atletico Tucuman (who were second-placed before the game) 4-1 at home. El Millonario made it seven league matches unbeaten (but just winning two and drawing five) to accumulate 21 points in the Liga Profesional, climbing into one of the Copa Libertadores zone in the aggregate rankings. On a sorry note, River are on six league games without a win on the road, with three stalemates and three losses. On Tuesday 17, River drew 1-1 away at CSD Colo Colo in Chile in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals.
River is completely focused on Copa Libertadores where they have to play the return leg of the Quarterfinals next week, so even though this is the biggest derby in the league and the most important game for both, they won’t use their best lineup. Boca are not the most reliable team but at home they’ve been quite strong, they will have Cavani back in attach and at these odds they are a must bet.
