Argentine Primera Division: Belgrano – Lanus Odds for March 20, 2024

Belgrano – Lanus

Belgrano are going through a difficult moment of form. Last time out, the team had to settle for a 2-2 away draw at CA Central Cordoba despite having taken the lead twice during the game. El Pirata made it four league matches without a win (drawing three and losing one in that time), which places them on eight points in the Copa Liga Profesional group B, just three above the relegation spot in the aggregate table. As a result, coach Guillermo Farre resigned. Belgrano secured six of those points at their own stadium, winning one, drawing three and losing one so far. Norberto Fernandez will take over as interim boss on Wednesday. He will miss playmaker Bryan Reyna, involved in an international duty with Peru’s national squad.

Lanus returned to their best form last Monday, playing an interesting performance to beat Tigre 3-2 after trailing on two occasions. Thanks to that victory, El Granate climbed into second spot of the group B table on 19 points (one behind leaders Godoy Cruz) after winning five of their last seven Copa Liga Profesional matches (along with one draw and one loss in that time). Lanus also are on three away victories in a row since losing to Godoy Cruz 1-0 in early February. On Friday 15, they lost 1-0 to fourth-tier club El Porvenir in the Copa Argentina first round.

Lanus will almost secure a playoff spot here with a win, and I’ll trust them to do it here. They’ve been quite solid lately, playing good football and they have the best offense of Group B with 16 goals scored and they will face a very poor Belgrano that has conceded goals in all the 11 games they’ve played this year.
