Banfield – Newell’s

Banfield are one of the worst teams in the league at the moment. Last time out, the team were dominated by Gimnasia LP and suffered a deserved 3-0 away defeat. Following that result, El Taladro remain winless in the Liga Profesional, drawing one and losing two to make it a single point, which drops them down to the 21st spot of the aggregate table. Furthermore, Banfield have been without a win in their last four as the hosting side (two stalemates and two losses since beating Deportivo Riestra 2-0 in March).

Newell’s Old Boys celebrated a big 1-0 home success over Defensa y Justicia in a hard-fought game, when Armando Mendez netted the winner in the 80th minute. Therefore, La Lepra made it six points in the Liga Profesional (one behind leaders) to approach the Copa Sudamericana zone in the aggregate table, having won two and lost one in this competition so far. On a sorry note, Mauricio Larriera managed a single victory across their last five on away turf, drawing one and losing three.

As bad as Banfield has been lately, I’ll trust them here. They had a good midweek win in Copa Argentina that should have improved their morale and they will face this Newell’s that’s as unreliable as them when playing away so I think they are value at this odds to at least avoid a defeat.
