Arsenal – Gimnasia
In the context of a terrible campaign, Sarandi Arsenal managed a valuable point on their visit to Velez Sarsfield last Friday, when they settled for a scoreless draw. The team continue occupying the penultimate spot in the Liga Profesional’s table on 13 points, having won only one of their last 13 league games (six draws and six defeats) and having failed to score in the last three. As a result, El Viaducto are now level with Gimnasia LP in the relegation table, only above six other teams. At home, Arsenal won one, drew four and lost one of the last six games in league action.
Thanks to a strike from Johan Carbonero in the first half, Gimnasia LP managed an important 1-0 home success over Newell’s Old Boys at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata last Saturday. The team are improving in the Liga Profesional: having lost only one of their last six league matches (three victories and two draws), El Lobo accumulated 21 points and levelled their next opponents in the relegation table (with six teams below). On a sorry note, Gimnasia claimed only one win on away turf in this competition, along with two draws and four defeats.
I don’t think Arsenal is a good team but they’ve been solid at home, they’ve conceded also only 2 goals in the last 8 games, and they should be able to hold and beat this irregular Gimnasia.
