Argentinos Juniors – Atletico Tucuman
Argentinos Juniors succumbed to a heavy blow on their visit to Defensa y Justicia 2-1 away last Thursday even though they took the first lead. Following that defeat, the team have been displaced from the Copa Libertadores places in the aggregate table (now trailing Estudiantes, who occupy the last qualifying berth, by goal difference). El Bicho remain on 30 points in the Liga Profesional table after losing three of their last five games, winning one and drawing one in the process.
In the context of a brilliant campaign, Atletico Tucuman are now experiencing a mini slump. Last Thursday, the team had to settle for a 1-1 home draw against Talleres and extended their winless streak to four league games (three draws and one defeat). As a result, El Decano have been displaced from the top of the league table and are now sitting in second spot on 35 points, trailing leaders Gimnasia LP by one. Thanks to this remarkable tournament, Lucas Pusineri’s men are now occupying the last Copa Sudamericana berth in the aggregate table.
Atletico are slowing down, Argentinos is playing for their last chances of fighting for the championship so I expect an open game with at least a couple of goals.
