Argentinos Juniors come off their best game in several months: they secured a massive 4-0 away success at Colon following a brilliant performance last Monday. Thanks to that success, the team stopped a two-game losing streak in league action to make it 33 points in the Liga Profesional. Therefore, El Bicho are now only two points behind the last Copa Libertadores berth in the 2022 aggregate table, occupied by Gimnasia LP.
River Plate are virtually out of the fight for the league title following their 1-0 home loss to Talleres last weekend, when they conceded in stoppage time. It was their third defeat across the last four Liga Profesional games, along with a single win (at San Lorenzo 1-0) in the process. Therefore, El Millonario remain on 32 points in the league table, nine behind leaders Atletico Tucuman with only six rounds to go. However, Marcelo Gallardo’s men are still into the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table. River lost only one of their last seven away games in this competition, winning three and drawing three.
Argentinos might not have any chances of fighting for the championship anymore but they have a shot at a Copa Libertadores spot and they should go for it. River is going through a crisis, they were eliminated from Copa Argentina midweek and I can’t see them winning here.
