Argentinos Jrs vs Independiente
Argentinos Juniors secured a valuable scoreless draw away at Newell’s Old Boys in round 14, when coach Gabriel Milito decided to field a mostly alternative XI. However, the team are producing an irregular campaign in the league this term, accumulating 19 points after not winning any of their last three matches in this competition (drawing two and losing one in that time). Argentinos grabbed 13 of those points at their own stadium as a product of four victories, one draw and one loss. On Tuesday 2, Argentinos drew 2-2 away at Uruguay’s Liverpool in a Copa Libertadores’ group game.
Independiente played their best game of the season and secured a massive 2-0 home success over Belgrano last Sunday, thanks to two penalties netted by Martin Cauteruccio. Following that victory, El Rojo finally put an end to their 12-match winless streak of seven draws and five defeats in league action. The team are now on 13 points in the Liga Profesional table, occupying 26th spot in the context of a terrible campaign and leading bottom-placed Union Santa Fe (who hold one game in hand) by five. On a sorry note, Independiente are on six away matches without a win, having drawn four and lost two since beating Talleres 1-0 in the season opener.
Despite last week’s win, their first in 13 games, I’m still not convinced by this poor Independiente and they should be in trouble against the very solid Argentinos Jrs.
