Velez vs Atletico Tucuman
Velez Sarsfield secured a valuable point on their visit to Tigre last weekend considering Nicolas Garayalde’s sending-off in the sixth minute. El Fortin are producing an irregular campaign in the Copa Liga Profesional, accumulating ten points and having claimed only one victory across their last four matches in this competition (drawing one and losing two). That form is not enough to leave relegation threats behind yet: Sebastian Mendez’s men remain sharing the drop spot with Gimnasia LP with just seven rounds to go. On a positive note, Velez are on six home matches unbeaten, with four victories and two draws since losing to Argentinos Juniors 1-0 in June.
Atletico Tucuman wasted a big chance last Monday, when they showed a poor performance and had to settle for a disappointing scoreless home draw against CA Central Cordoba. El Decano made it ten points in group A, a decent campaign but still unavailable to enter the continental spots in the aggregate table. Having succumbed to a single loss across their last 13 matches in league action (seven wins and five draws), the side are just one point behind tenth-placed Lanus at the moment. On a sorry note, Atletico are winless in the last three on the road, having drawn two and lost one.
Despite last week’s draw with 10 men, Velez are looking really bad now and they are big candidates to get relegated. Atletico is a better team, their only away defeat was a last minute defeat against the defending champions River, and I think they should be able to at least hold to a tie here.
