Union vs Sarmiento
Union Santa Fe secured a valuable point on their visit to Colon last Sunday in a heated and even city derby. However, that result also means El Tatengue made it five league games without a win (drawing four and losing one). Accumulating just eight points in the Copa Liga Profesional, Cristian Gonzalez’s men remain threatened by relegation, leading Gimnasia LP and Velez Sarsfield by just one point in the aggregate table. Union are unbeaten in their last nine at home, with three victories and six stalemates in that spell. Centre back Franco Calderon saw his fifth yellow card in this competition at Colon and is suspended for Sunday.
Sarmiento wasted a big chance last Monday, when they registered a 1-1 away stalemate against Barracas Central at Huracan despite having taken the first lead. El Verde made it four league matches without a win (three draws and one loss), which places them on ten points in the Copa Liga Profesional group B table and just three points above the relegation spot in the aggregate rankings. Furthermore, Pablo Lavallen’s men made it eight winless games on away turf (drawing four and losing four). Striker Agustin Fontana continues to recover from a muscle injury, as well as his possible replacement Lisandro Lopez.
Another big relegation game, another match where I don’t expect much from either of these teams. Sarmiento will miss two strikers, Union drew 6 of the last 9 at home, this should be another tight game where both will prioritize not to lose.
