Sarmiento vs San Lorenzo
Sarmiento continue to find trouble in this spell of the season. Last Monday, the team ended up losing 2-1 away at Estudiantes, one of the worst teams in the Copa Liga Profesional. As a result, El Verde extended their winless streak to eight league games (drawing five and losing three). While the team accumulated 11 points in ten matches in group B, which places them only two points above the relegation spot in the aggregate table, coach Pablo Lavallen left the club. At home, Sarmiento secured just two points from the last nine on offer. Diego Calcaterra reached the yellow-card limit at Estudiantes and is suspended for Monday. New coach Facundo Sava will make his debut on Monday.
San Lorenzo rescued a home point in a hard-fought game against Platense last Thursday, when drawing 1-1 thanks to Adam Bareiro’s equaliser in the 90th minute. As a result, El Ciclon extended their winless streak to nine league matches (drawing seven and losing two), which means they accumulated just ten points in as many matches in the Copa Liga Profesional. Therefore, they remain out of the Copa Libertadores’ spots in the aggregate table, trailing fourth-placed Defensa y Justicia by one point. On away turf, San Lorenzo are without a win in the last four in this competition, with three stalemates and one loss.
Even though they are both underish teams, this should be an open game with at least a couple of goals. Sarmiento, with their new coach Facundo Sava who is more attacking minded than the one that left, could end the round on the relegation spot with only 3 games left depending on other results, and for San Lorenzo the draw is completely useless as they are 5 points behind the playoffs zone and 2 behind the Copa Libertadores zone on the aggregate table.
