Sarmiento – Godoy Cruz
Sarmiento returned to winning ways following a worthy performance last Sunday, when they beat Newell’s Old Boys 1-0 away thanks to a strike from Juan Cruz Kaprof in the second half. El Verde put an end to their nine-match winless run of six stalemates and three defeats in the Liga Profesional to accumulate 15 points in group B, climbing out of the relegation zone in the aggregate table (now leading Colon by three points).
Godoy Cruz continue to produce a great campaign in the Copa Liga Profesional. Last time out, they found it easy to beat Platense 2-0 at home following a solid performance. As a result, El Tomba are now the only group B leaders on 21 points, two above second-placed CA Central Cordoba. In addition, Daniel Oldra’s men took another step towards securing a Copa Libertadores’ ticket for next season as they remain sitting in third spot of the aggregate table after losing only one of their last 13 league games (six wins and six draws).
Sarmiento will forget about relegation if they can get a win here, otherwise they will still have to suffer in the last round, Godoy Cruz is a better team than them and they have already secured a playoff spot. They won’t have their star player Tadeo Allende and they won’t see a draw with bad eyes because it would put them closer to secure a Copa Libertadores 2024 place, so I expect the hosts to be hungrier for the win they need and they should be able to take it despite their recent poor run.
