Racing Club vs Independiente
Roger Martinez’s strike in the 91st minute of the game allowed Racing Club to take an important point on their visit to Godoy Cruz in a tough game last Monday, when drawing 1-1. As a result, La Academia remain without defeat in the Copa Liga Profesional, accumulating 12 points following three victories and three stalemates to stay as the only group B leaders. Furthermore, Fernando Gago’s men had enough to enter the Copa Sudamericana zone in the aggregate table. Racing also are on eight home matches unbeaten in domestic action, having won five and drawn three in that stretch.
Independiente were unlucky to register a scoreless home draw against Instituto last Sunday. However, the point means El Rojo are now unbeaten in their last five league games (three victories and two draws since losing to Colon 1-0 at home in the opener) to accumulate 11 points in group A, just one behind leaders Huracan and Colon. Carlos Tevez’s men are also holding a three-point gap over the relegation spot in the aggregate table, shared by Gimnasia LP and Velez Sarsfield. Independiente succumbed to a single defeat across their last five away commitments, winning two and drawing two in that time.
Since Carlos Tevez joined Independiente as their new coach they look more confident and their latest results gave them some air to breath on their fight to avoid relegation. This is one of the biggest historic rivalries in the league and definitely a game neither wants to lose, so I’ll go with his in form Independiente to at least get a point.
