Racing – Belgrano
Racing Club secured their ticket to the Copa Liga Profesional playoffs last time out, when they managed to beat Lanus 2-0 away thanks to goals from Baltasar Rodriguez and Gonzalo Piovi. La Academia made it five matches unbeaten in this competition (two victories and three draws) to accumulate 21 points in group B, which also allowed them to almost clinch a ticket to the 2024 Copa Sudamericana (they just need to avoid the defeat here because at least one more berth will open up). On a sorry note, Racing won only one of their last four home matches in domestic action, having drawn one and lost two. Striker Roger Martinez will miss out on Monday due to a muscle injury.
Belgrano will also be in the Copa Liga Profesional quarter-finals following their enjoyable 4-1 home success over Union Santa Fe in round 13. The team put an end to their three-match winless streak of one draw and two defeats in league action to climb into second spot of the group B table on 21 points. In addition, El Pirata just need one point here (as well as their opponents) to clinch a ticket to the Copa Sudamericana for next season. On away turf, Belgrano registered one victory, four draws and one loss in this competition.
Both already have secured a playoff spot, Belgrano can finish first in the group with just one point and they will rest the league’s top scorer Lucas Passerini so he’s ready for the Quarterfinals, Racing needs to win but I don’t think they will be desperate about it and they will also rest some players and also will miss their best striker, Roger Martinez, due to suspension, so I expect to see a close game here with no one taking risks.
