Lanus vs Belgrano
Lanus are starting to find their best version under recently-appointed coach Ricardo Zielinski. Last Thursday, the team secured a big 2-1 home success over Tigre thanks to goals from Lautaro Acosta and Juan Caceres. El Granate secured their first victory in the Copa Liga Profesional (after four draws and five losses) to accumulate seven points, climbing out of the bottom spot in group B and approaching the continental spots in the aggregate table (they trail tenth-placed Argentinos Juniors just by goal difference). At home, Lanus collected five points in as many matches in this competition, winning one, drawing two and losing two so far.
Belgrano fans will have felt frustrated after the team’s 1-1 home stalemate against CA Central Cordoba last Wednesday as they conceded the equaliser with just 12 minutes to go. However, El Pirata are producing a great campaign in the Copa Liga Profesional, accumulating 18 points to remain as group B leaders, now alongside Godoy Cruz. Furthermore, after 11 league games without defeat (four wins and seven draws), Guillermo Farre’s men stay into one of the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table. Belgrano collected seven points on the road in this competition, winning one and drawing four so far.
Lanus finally won a game in this tournament last week but their rival was the terrible Tigre. Belgrano are on a good undefeated streak, they have on of the league top scorers in Lucas Passerini, and should be able to take something from this game and get closer to secure a playoff spot.
