Independiente vs Velez
Independiente continue to live a nightmare this season. Last weekend, the team had a terrible debut in the Copa Liga Profesional and ended up losing to Colon 1-0 at home, in which was a six-pointer regarding relegation. In fact, El Rojo are now sharing the drop spot in the aggregate table with their last rivals and Huracan after three consecutive defeats without even scoring in league action. As a result, coach Ricardo Zielinski resigned. Independiente also lost their last three at home and haven’t netted any goals in that stretch. Thinking of Sunday’s clash against Velez Sarsfield, new coach Carlos Tevez will make his debut.
Velez Sarsfield took a big breather in their Copa Liga Profesional opening game. Last Saturday, they secured a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Barracas Central thanks to an own goal from Fernando Prado to take three important points in their fight to avoid relegation. Having lost only one of their last seven in league action (along with three wins and three draws), El Fortin hold a two-point gap over the drop place in the aggregate table, shared by Independiente, Huracan and Colon. On a sorry note, Velez lost seven of their last ten away matches, winning only one and drawing two in that time.
I don’t trust either of these teams but Independiente is desperate for a win, Velez has been awful away, so I think two goals are definitely possible.
