Gimnasia vs Velez
Gimnasia LP are going through a deep crisis at the moment. Two weeks ago, they succumbed to a terrible 2-1 home defeat to Independiente in a six-pointer in their fight to stay in the top flight. Pointless in three Copa Liga Profesional games and winless in their last ten league games (drawing five and losing five), El Lobo dropped down to the relegation spot in the aggregate table, now trailing Colon and Huracan by one point. As a result of this worrying situation, coach Sebastian Romero left the club. To make matters worse, Gimnasia are on five home matches without a win, taking just two points from 15 available in that spell. Coach Leonardo Madelon will make his debut on Wednesday.
Velez Sarsfield are showing clear signs of life in the Copa Liga Profesional. Last Saturday, the team produced an enjoyable performance to beat defending champions River Plate 2-0 at home. Thanks to that win, Sebastian Mendez’s men made it six points in three rounds as a product of two victories and a single defeat (group A leaders alongside Huracan, Talleres, Banfield, Colon and Independiente), which allows them to open a three-point gap over the relegation spot in the aggregate table, occupied by Gimnasia LP. Nevertheless, Velez grabbed a single point from the last nine available on away turf.
Gimnasia are entering desperate mode, Velez comes from a big win vs River but I still don’t trust them, so I’ll go here for the OVER as for Gimnasia a draw will be a bad result and sooner than later they will take risks.
