Gimnasia – Atletico Tucuman
Gimnasia LP wasted a big chance on their visit to Sarandi Arsenal (who have already got relegated) last Friday. The scoreless away draw means El Lobo remain threatened by relegation as they just hold a three-point gap over the drop spot in the aggregate table, despite accumulating 15 points in the Copa Liga Profesional group A and losing a single game across their last seven in this competition (three wins and three draws). At home, Gimnasia registered three victories and three defeats so far.
Atletico Tucuman couldn’t hold onto their lead last Saturday and ended up losing 2-1 to Independiente at home, having conceded in the 94th minute. That result means El Decano claimed a single victory across their last six Copa Liga Profesional matches, drawing two and losing three. They remain on 14 points in the group A table and are running out of chances to clinch a Copa Sudamericana ticket for next season. On away turf, Atletico have been winless in their last six matches, with three draws and three defeats since beating CA Central Cordoba 2-0 in July.
Atletico has been awful in their last two games, looking like they didn’t care at all and it’s probably because they are playing almost for nothing (they only have a remote chance of getting a Copa Sudamericana place). Today they won’t have playmaker Ramiro Carrera, probably their best player, so I expect Gimnasia to take the win they need to forget about relegation and secure their top division status.
