Banfield vs River
Banfield are going through a difficult moment. Last Wednesday, the team showed a worrying performance and succumbed to a heavy 1-0 away defeat to Barracas Central. That result means El Taladro are on two losses in a row in the Copa Liga Profesional. Accumulating just six points in group A, Julio Falcioni’s men are now only three points above the relegation place in the aggregate table. Furthermore, Banfield lost to Argentinos Juniors 1-0 in their last home match after four matches unbeaten at Estadio Florencio Sola (three victories and one draw).
River Plate had to fight more than expected last Thursday, when they claimed a massive 1-0 home success over Atletico Tucuman thanks to a strike from Salomon Rondon in the 93rd minute. The defending champions entered the playoff zone in group A on nine points after winning three of their last four league games (losing only once in that spell). On a sorry note, Martin Demichelis’ men are on five away matches without a win in domestic action, having drawn two and lost three.
River has been extremely unreliable when playing away lately, they were lucky to win on Thursday so while Banfield is far from a good team, they really need points so sooner than later they will take risks and this should lead to an open game where anything can happen.
