Arsenal vs Argentinos Jrs
Sarandi Arsenal see their crisis getting deeper and deeper as the season progresses. On Sunday, the side opened up their Copa Liga Profesional campaign with a devastating 1-0 home defeat to newly-promoted side Instituto. That result represented their sixth loss across the last nine matches in league action, along with a single victory and two stalemates. El Viaducto are by far the worst team in this league season (22 points in 28 matches) and they remain bottom in the point-average table, trailing Platense and CA Central Cordoba by 19 points with just 13 rounds to go. Arsenal lost four of their last five home matches, just beating Colon 2-0 in that time. Centre back Maximiliano Centurion suffered a serious knee injury last time out and will miss several games.
Argentinos Juniors were one of the best teams in the Copa Liga Profesional opening round, showing a great display of football to beat River Plate 3-2 at home with new signing Luciano Gondou netting a brace. El Bicho took their first three points in this competition to remain occupying one of the continental spots in the aggregate table, just four points behind the last Copa Libertadores berth. Argentinos lost only one of their last six league games, winning three and drawing two. On away turf, Gabriel Milito’s men grabbed seven points from the last 12 on offer as a product of two victories, one draw and one defeat.
Arsenal are just hopeless and there’s a big chance that they will be relegated several weeks before this tournament is over. Argentinos is one of the best teams in Group A, they just came from beating the defending champions River, so I expect them to get the 3 points here.
