Caracas FC were Venezuelan league champions last year and qualified for the Copa Libertadores for 17th time in history (having made it to the quarter-finals in 2009). Last Friday, coach Noel Sanvicente fielded an alternative XI, who drew 1-1 with Academia Puerto Cabello at home. Therefore, they are now sitting in the second spot on 11 points (two behind leaders Deportivo Lara) in five rounds of league action. The team are unbeaten in their last 12 matches (winning six and drawing six in regular time). At home, Caracas hasn’t lost any of the last seven (four wins and three draws after 90 minutes).
Meanwhile, Boca Juniors ended up in third in the 2018/19 Argentine league and they will try to lift their seventh Copa Libertadores’ title in history. On Saturday, El Xeneize thrashed Colon 4-0 on away turf to make it six matches without defeat in 2020 (one draw and five consecutive victories). They remain sitting in the second spot of the league table on 45 points, one behind leaders River Plate, with a single round left. On the road, Boca won all three games this year.
Boca is clearly the better side, but they will use a lot of reserves to rest their starters for the last round of the Argentinean Superliga, so Caracas should take advantage of their rotation to remain unbeaten at home.
