Lanus started the new year in a sorry way: the team produced a terrific performance and lost to relegation candidates Aldosivi 2-0 away. That means El Granate claimed a single win in their last five league matches (one draw, three defeats). Luis Zubeldia’s men remain on 29 points, four below leaders. However, Lanus holds an impressive home record, having registered five victories, two draws and a single loss so far.
Godoy Cruz put up a good fight against league leaders River Plate in coach Mario Sciacqua’s debut, but they ended up losing 1-0 at home. El Tomba lost their last three matches in the Superliga and remain bottom in the league table on nine points, having suffered 14 defeats in 17 rounds. Furthermore, they were beaten in seven of their eight league travels, only beating Patronato in week 14.
Even if Godoy Cruz has the worst defense in the league, new coach Mario Sciaqua should make them a more compact team like they’ve shown last week when they lost only 1-0 against the leaders River. Lanus has scored only 2 goals in their last 5 games, so I think the totals line is too high here.
