Boca vs Gimnasia
Boca Juniors took a valuable point on their visit to second-placed Huracan last weekend, drawing 0-0 despite coach Fernando Gago’s decision to field an alternative XI. El Xeneize made it four league games unbeaten (three victories and one stalemate) to accumulate 35 points in the Liga Profesional, which allows them to occupy the last Copa Libertadores’ berth in the aggregate table. At home, Boca have been unbeaten in their last four in the league, winning three and drawing one. On Wednesday 27, Boca lost 4-3 to Velez Sarsfield in the Copa Argentina semi-finals.
Gimnasia LP want to stay alive in their fight to return to continental action. Last Sunday, the team celebrated a big 1-0 home success over Atletico Tucuman thanks to a strike from Leandro Mamut in the first half. El Lobo won two and drew two of their last five in league action, losing only once in that spell, to make it 32 points in the Liga Profesional. As a result, Marcelo Mendez’s men stay four points behind the last Copa Sudamericana berth in the aggregate table. On a sorry note, Gimnasia are on five without a win as the visiting side, drawing four and losing one.
Boca hasn’t been reliable this year but with 3 games left their only goal is to secure a Copa Libertadores 2025 spot and for that they need a couple of more wins. A game at home vs the poor Gimnasia is definitely one they can’t let go, so I’m willing to trust them to take the 3 points they really need here.
