Sarmiento vs Boca
Sarmiento put up a good fight on their visit to Atletico Tucuman last Monday, but it wasn’t enough to secure points. Their 1-0 away loss means El Verde are now on five league games without a win (three draws and two losses), which keeps them on 21 points in as many rounds of Liga Profesional action. Following that campaign, they remain occupying the bottom spot of the aggregate table, trailing Tigre by one point. However, Sarmiento lost only one of their last nine at home, winning three and drawing five. Centre back Juan Insaurralde reached the yellow-card limit at Atletico Tucuman and is suspended. Emiliano Mendez, affected by a muscle problem, will miss out too.
Boca Juniors grabbed their first victory under coach Fernando Gago last Wednesday, when they reversed the score to beat Godoy Cruz 4-1 at home. El Xeneize put an end to that three-match winless streak of one draw and two defeats in league action to make it 28 points in the Liga Profesional and to stay expectant regarding the Copa Libertadores’ tickets via the aggregate table (now trailing fourth-placed Talleres by four points). However, Boca need to improve on the road: they haven’t won any of the last nine as the visiting side in domestic action, drawing four and losing five.
Boca finally was able to let go of the pressure with a good win at home but they can’t relax and need to keep getting points to reach the Copa Libertadores zone in the annual table that is now 4 points ahead of them. Their defense is still quite bad though as they conceded goals in 13 of their last 14 games so a couple here should be definitely possible.
