Platense vs Banfield
Platense played one of their best matches in 2024 last Monday, when they secured a massive 3-1 away success at Defensa y Justicia. El Calamar made it 11 points in the Liga Profesional as a product of three victories, two stalemates and three defeats, which allows them to stay safe from relegation threats and approach the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table. On a sorry note, Platense lost to Velez Sarsfield 2-0 in their last home match after three games unbeaten at Estadio Ciudad de Vicente Lopez (two wins and one draw).
Banfield are going through a difficult moment of form. Last Wednesday, the team were dominated from beginning to end and lost 3-0 away at Boca Juniors. El Taladro made it four Liga Profesional matches without a win, drawing two and losing two, which leaves them on six points after eight rounds and keep them into 21st spot of the aggregate table at the moment. To make matters worse, Banfield made it four consecutive defeats as the visiting outfit. There is no relevant injury news for coach Gustavo Munua to visit Platense on Monday.
Platense comes from a solid win at Defensa y Justicia to recover from the defeat against Velez, which was only their 2nd defeat at home this year in 10 games. Banfield are looking worse and worse every week, especially when playing away, and with no important new players is hard to see how they will improve so I’ll trust the hosts here.
