Argentinos Jrs vs Lanus
Argentinos Juniors are struggling at the moment. Last Tuesday, the team couldn’t handle a sending-off in the 12th minute and ended up losing 2-0 away at newcomers Deportivo Riestra. El Bicho remain on nine points in the Liga Profesional after losing three of their last four (along with one victory), including the last two. Pablo Guede’s men remain out of the Copa Libertadores’ spots in the aggregate table. Argentinos lost 2-0 to Tigre in their last home match after 11 unbeaten at Estadio Diego Armando Maradona in domestic action (nine victories and two draws). Centre back Erik Godoy is suspended for Monday after seeing a red card at Deportivo Riestra.
Meanwhile, Lanus showed an interesting version last Thursday, when they beat Belgrano 3-2 at home in a thrilling match. Thanks to that result, El Granate made it six Liga Profesional matches without defeat, winning three and drawing three in that spell to accumulate 12 points in this competition. That good campaign allows them to continue occupying one of the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table. On a sorry note, Lanus are winless in the last four on the road in domestic action, with three stalemates and one loss since beating Belgrano 1-0 in March.
Argentinos are having a hard time adapting to play without their best striker, Luciano Gondou, who is with the Argentina NT in the Olympics. They couldn’t score in the last 2 games and to make things worse they also won’t have defender Erik Godoy due to a suspension. Lanus has looked good since the Copa America break with a good win vs Belgrano and a very decent draw at River so I expect them to be able to avoid a defeat here.
