Gimnasia – Barracas Central

Gimnasia LP couldn’t hold onto their lead and ended up losing 2-1 away at Instituto in an intense game in matchday 4. That defeat stopped their three-match unbeaten streak of two victories and one draw in league action and also means El Lobo are no longer one of the Liga Profesional leaders, accumulating seven points from 12 on offer so far. On a positive note, Gimnasia remain perfect at home under coach Marcelo Mendez, having beaten Velez Sarsfield 3-1 and Banfield 3-0 this term.

Barracas Central are currently getting worse. Last time out, the team succumbed to a deserved 2-0 defeat to Huracan, playing as hosts at Deportivo Riestra. That result means El Guapo are now on three league games without a win, drawing one and losing two, which keeps them on four points in as many Liga Profesional matches. However, Alejandro Orfila’s men remain occupying one of the Copa Sudamericana berths in the aggregate table. Barracas took three points on away turf, beating Godoy Cruz and losing to Union Santa Fe.

I’m going to trust this improved Gimnasia that can reach the leaders with a win. They’ve looked great at home so far int his tournament with 6 goals scored in 2 games while Barracas has been nothing but disappointing.
