Estudiantes (Argentina) – Huachipato (Chile)
Estudiantes had their away game at Gremio FBPA postponed due to major floods in Rio Grande do Sul. As a result, the team are now third-placed in group C on four points, trailing Huachipato FC (who also hold a game in hand) by one. On Friday, El Pincha lost 2-1 away at Lanus, which means they remain on four points after three Liga Profesional matches. That loss stopped a two-match winning streak in all competitions. Estudiantes won four of their last five at home, along with a single defeat.
Meanwhile, Huachipato FC wasted a big chance on their visit to The Strongest in week five, losing 4-0 away. El Acerero are sitting in second spot of the group C table on five points, advantaging Estudiantes by one at the moment. Francisco Troncoso’s men beat Everton SADP 1-0 at home on Saturday, stopping a six-game winless streak of two draws and four losses in all competitions. They are now producing an irregular campaign in the league, accumulating 16 points in 14 games. Huachipato remain without a win in their last four on the road, drawing one and losing three.
Estudiantes must win here or their chances of advancing will be in serious trouble. They’ve been quite solid lately, especially at home where they are very strong and I expect them to get an easy win against this mediocre chilean side.
