Godoy Cruz had a rough night in the Copa Liga Profesional’s quarter-finals and were knocked out of the competition after losing to Velez Sarsfield 2-1 in Villa Mercedes. In fact, it was their second consecutive defeat in league action. However, El Tomba were the best team in the group stage and are currently toppers in the aggregate table, accumulating 29 points and holding a three-point gap over the first non-Copa Libertadores berth. Godoy Cruz have been unbeaten in their last three home matches, having won two and drawn one in that time. Coach Daniel Oldra will miss Hernan Lopez Munoz from now on as the playmaker was sold to MLS side San Jose Earthquakes.

Barracas Central produced their best top-flight campaign ever in the 2024 Copa Liga Profesional. The team were knocked out by Estudiantes after a 3-0 loss at Platense in the quarter-finals, but they are now fighting for a continental ticket after accumulating 26 points in the group stage (missing the Copa Libertadores’ zone in the aggregate table just by goal difference). The aforementioned defeat stopped a four-game unbeaten streak of three wins and one draw in league action. El Guapo lost only one of their last nine away matches, winning three and drawing five. All regulars are at Alejandro Orfila’s disposal to visit Godoy Cruz on Saturday.

Godoy Cruz needs to recover from a quick elimination in the playoffs of the Copa de la Liga and they will have to do it without Hernan Lopez Muñoz, their playmaker, who was sold to the MLS.
