Newell’s vs Tigre
Newell’s Old Boys showed improvements last Sunday, but it wasn’t enough to return to winning ways. The entertaining 2-2 home stalemate against San Lorenzo means La Lepra are winless in their last four Copa Liga Profesional matches, taking a single point in that stretch. That negative run displaced them from the playoff spots in group B as La Lepra accumulate 13 points, trailing fourth-placed Racing Club by one. Furthermore, Newell’s are on three home matches without a win, having drawn one and lost two.
Tigre finally secured their first league win in 2024 last Friday, when beating direct relegation contenders CA Central Cordoba 1-0 at home, with Ezequiel Forclaz netting the winner in the first half. El Matador put an end to their nine-match winless streak of three draws and six defeats to make it five points in the Copa Liga Profesional, also climbing out of the bottom spot in the aggregate table. On a sorry note, Tigre are on five away games without a win, taking a single point from the last 15 available.
Tigre’s first win of the season vs Central Cordoba was a lucky one as the game was quite balanced and the visitors should have scored. Newell’s is on a bad run, but still with a win here they would climb into the playoffs zone of Group B and they just can’t miss this opportunity at home against such a poor rival.
